thats why i watch numberphile. It`s much more pleasing to learn about math this way then reading the theoretical scripts. ofc you can only understand certain ideas (in all of its details) truly only if you study the scripts, but if you ever read a math script before you know its like a second language

You are doing what he is advocating, Brady. I am not mathematician at all, not even even am math lover. But I have spent several hours on your videos and from what I have seen so far you are exactly using the methods he pleads for. And indeed, it works.

As an engineer that loves math and also who is currently majoring on visual arts, with the intention of doing the post workshops. on photography (total of 6 years). I can. tell you that art is the language of the world. Math is a way of describing some of its pieces. Yes you can't live without math but an existence without art is dull. The fastest, most elegant, most efficient phone phone is useless without something to see, something to listen, something to interact. I love doing theoretical exercises just for the fun of it but art is the purpose, math y merely a mean. Don't get me wrong, I agree on the need to explicitly show the importance of math. But music without an mpê player is still beautiful. An mp3. player without music is not.

It really makes me mad when people are kind of "proud" to be bad at math:
- I'm bad at math, lol
- Me too lol
- High five !!!
Then they go with simple things like algebra, saying its useless, then they are unable to understand than x, y, z, whatever was just an abstract way to represent something like money, weight, distance, speed, length, time. I like how this video says that mathematic is freedom, cause it really is, you have values and you can do whatever you want with it to find a solution to your problem.
I think the educational system fail to make students understand what's the point of mathematics, like the video says, the "achievements" of math, since math is often the basis of other science, often the goal or achievement is often attributed to the "specific" science like physic, chemistry, biology etc, but in the end math, is the root of the "power" of science. -
I'm such an idiot XD I thought, damn, I read these exactly phrases in the book, this is cheating to use it in the video! Then I realised he is the author -_-

wrong. the financial crisis was caused by the government policies and the central bank policies.
-
math is for people who have IQ 200. While me only 95. Honestly I Hate Math.

i know why people hate math...

Unhappiness is the condition the mind creates to indicate a mismatch between what it thought would happen and what did happen. This is an internal punishment to drive avoidance of danger. In order to offset that there needs to be a reward. The typical reward in math class is - nothing. And the feedback loop is terrible. In comparison with almost any other endeavor there is no linear feedback; one can't almost add two numbers correctly, so there's not a way to gradually improve.
-
They hate mathematics because they have to learn formulaes without understanding them. Nobody likes that of course
-
or maybe give them the real fascinating parts of mathematics
-
no matter it's hard or not, just try it, taste it deeply so that u can judge it where it is hard; useful for u, so as for other area of study, like humanities, u have to try before u know
-
most cases of people hating math boils down to poor teachers, poor syllabus, poor motivation and downright lazyness.

When I was a lad my diabolical friends pulled a prank on me where they agreed to laugh hysterically at a nonsense punchline of "No soap, radio! HAHAHAHA". Math-haters suspect that mathematicians are simply doing the same thing. "See, isn't that a beautiful proof? BWAHAHAHA!"

im bad on math

"The solution, is that first of all, more mathematicians should go out"
Literally... -
Art gives beauty to life.
Maths gives life to beauty. -
And I Quote :
6:35
"the solution is, that, first of all, more mathematicians should go out, and let other people in on a secret. you know because it's really like a secret, and we are almost like an elite that is keeping that secret. And i don't want that, to continue. I want everyone in on a secret. i want everyone to realize that there's this beautiful world out there ..."

I'm 14, I LOVE MATH, but some of other people of my age don't, and still my theacher is really stimulating and tryes to be fun and do methaphores in the world for math and phisics; I think that the real problem is that there is an ideology in people (especially past generations) that says "Math is boring, but you have to do it, so deal with it." and I don't get it!
(I dunno if it's like this in the all word but at least in Italy yes; also sorry if (√-1) misspelled something.)
