http://www.ted.com When game designer Jane McGonigal found herself bedridden and suicidal following a severe concussion, she had a fascinating idea for how to get better. THANK YOU!

I love this talk, but it would have been nice to hear Jane at least briefly acknowledge addiction in gaming. My younger sister and her boyfriend of ten years had serious problems with his 40 hour a week gaming habit. Further, Most people who say that "gaming is a waste of time" have probably been addicted to a game and actually have wasted time to the detriment of other more important things in life, like relationships with their loved ones.

One of my all time TED Talks favourite. Keep it up!

Jane, I have been a fan since Reality is Broken, but I couldn't find a way to deal with the chronic fatigue that came with my prostate cancer. I watched so many people on reality TV who had major challenges and turned them into HAGs that changed people's lives. Then came SuperBetter which I have given to several friends. It helped me find my HAG which has resulted in a Facebook group today called Musicians with Cancer and other Maladies. The idea being simply that anyone who knows a songwriter, composer or musician who has cancer or a similar condition that stops them from practicing, writing or even picking up their instrument gets helped by their friends with a simple TXT message or call of encouragement. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1819305945017261/ It's a simple idea but I'm hoping it will grow and help many people like myself. Thanks a million.

I got a sever Cuncussion and I have now have six spots of severe brain damage. I talked to a Cuncussion expert at children's hospital her name is Monic Burton (I'm not %100 sure if it's the right spelling) but when I talked to her and told her what the doctors said. she told me they were wrong that do what you can until you get a headache. push your self to your symptoms act up just a lil bit. but that complete brain rest/isolation can be very damaging especially for youths. they miss school they fall behind in work and are just out of touch with their friends. this can lead to bad depression Wich won't help the healing. she encouraged me to play video games because I couldn't read books/comics. I wish more doctors had this to share with their patients to help youths and adults with Cuncussion.

always citing UNIVERSITY studies to ''prove'' this or that... But do not forget the nature of universities-subsities-and human nature. Yes, games are good (I'll get back to that later).
...example: there was a time when studies suggested protein was harmful for your health - then other studies suggested otherwise. once we had studies telling us dietary fat is unhealthy - now there are studies to the contrary. Carbs are bad - carbs are good etc etc etc.
it's the nature of universities to register ''studies''--- masters, doctoral and post doc - they all need a subject to whatever - or whatever...
games are probably one of the most important social interactions between children and between adults throughout their lives. A lot of social growing takes place (conflict resolution, etc.) but when I was young we played hide and seek, tether-ball, kick the can, tag, --- you see where I'm going with this.
I enjoyed her talk immensely but seemed a little : a study this , a study that, and could anyone witness a bit of marketing. just like those who ''study'' nutrition and have formed nutritionism as a science - everyone's right and everyone's wrong. No wonder people can be so confused. BTW, it should be quality and not quantity of life so I'll forfeit my 7 minutes and still play.
...just my 2 cents worth
