Preface: This was originally made for a friend, but it was too long to send in a message, so I had to upload it to YouTube. Some profanity is used. Filmed with an iPad. Background: Since the Old Man glitch was fixed after Red/Blue, this is how you can achieve the same item duplication in Yellow. This is also sometimes referred to as the Ditto Glitch. Basically, each Pokémon corresponds with a specific number of Special stat (also Prof. Oak and random trainers, but that's another story). So MissingNo.'s that are deemed "safe" are Special stat values 182, 183, and 184, apparently. If you want a specific Pokémon instead of a MissingNo., there is a list, along with other useful information, on GameFAQs. Here is one useful guide: http://www.gamefaqs.com/gameboy/198314-pokemon-yellow-version-special-pikachu-edition/faqs/27916 Implications: It is therefore possible to get Pokémon that do not appear in Yellow within the game (hence my nearly complete Pokédex). It's just a matter of keeping a long-range trainer around, having enough other trainers to battle, and raising a Pokémon to have the required Special stat that generates the desired Pokémon. In the event that no random trainers are left, apparently it's also possible to use the Elite Four in lieu of a random trainer, but refer to GameFAQs for that. Endnote: Gotta catch 'em all? Now you can! Even without friends! :) Personally, I don't really consider this "cheating" because it doesn't require the use of an external device (e.g., GameShark) to put a Pokémon into your game. You just have to make the game generate the Pokémon for you, which is what this does.
