Remember that your goal is to make a game, any game, not necessarily a complex game like the ones professional teams of game developers in a studio can produce. By starting small and focusing on the basic gameplay, a new game designer can learn a lot about their skills and build on that for their next game (or the next version of their first game). That way, you can actually complete a playable game instead of getting stuck on the details as so many first time game makers do. Need programming help? I don't even know where to start! I want to create my first game, but I need help on how to code or how to make a stage and all that. I want to start basic and simple because I know that going with high expectations, massive coding, and 3D engines will unmotivate me

PICO-8 is a great way to start small. Humble Bundle currently has an awesome Game Dev Bundle. $10 for everything, including its' 3D cousin Voxatron, as well as a bunch of art tools, some organization software. and an engine for when you expand beyond the minimum viable product scope. THANK YOU. I mean I've bought several engines (admittedly all in a humble bundle) trying to learn and nothing has told me where to start to actually learn. THANK YOU!!!!

I made a game, it's a text-based game to show off my javascript chops. It's online now, but the website I am posting on (which I made myself as well) will need to be revamped.

This video is really pessimist, I could believe you if you where talking about making a game from scratch, but with today's tools, Unreal Engine, Unity and the asset stores? I've seen people without a shred of talent in their whole bodies make complete games and putting them on Steam by the DOZENS. They may be shit but they're definitely more advanced than Mario
