Europa Universalis 4 Guide - Institutions and New Tech System!

With the release of Rights of Man for EU4 and the accompanying update and overhaul of the game's tech system, I decided to do a guide on the channel on how the Institutions system works! Keep in mind, this is my understanding of Institutions as they are as of the release of Rights of Man, so down the line things could be different, and my understanding of the mechanics may not encompass everything at this point in time! but how bout technology groups cuz im playing as Mali but i want to be able to crate trade companies but im west african. How do i westernize then?

Is there a way to turn off institution?

Like the guide, but you gotta look into the better UI mods, your resolution looks like dogshit (not your fault, its the default setting). You are playing on a modern monitor, the default resolution squishes everything together so much.

Ive always said that EU4 needs to have a way to learn superior tech groups. For example, if I'm west African and I border Morocco, I should be able to "muslimize/easternize". If I'm west African and Portugal conquers Morocco's place as my neighbor, the penalty should be even greater (w african -> muslim -> anatolian -> western). I like the institution ideas but tech groups are important at accessing new unit types/buildings/port upgrades/etc. Keep the institution "virus" effect, but still make it possible for low-tech nations to advance their tech groups with penalties depending on who their neighbors are.

Holy shit u have a serious rehash problem

If you play with the extended timeline that i thinl goes from 2-9999 there are like alot more institutions it goes from writing to globalization

Can someone explain to me why colonialism doesnt trigger in my country? I'm playing as Portugal, by 1500 I have already discovered all the american coast, i have CN in Brazil, i have every requirement. But it does not trigger. Meanwhile, 11 years later, it triggers in Castile?!?!! WHY?? It triggered for them the moment they had all requirements, but not for me?!?!

So much blablabla

The idea is good but if you wanna up your production quality, have a save ready at 1450 and predisable popups. You can even run it all AI if you wanna get fancy.

I'm very impressed with this. Previous versions of the game have not really made sense with their tech groups. The flat increase in different parts of the world was very unimmersive. It's like inventors in China were like, "I must work 60% less efficiently because I live in China." Now the mechanic makes a lot more sense. A person in a country without certain key technologies or schools of thought would have difficulty inventing and improving things.

this needs to be more popular

I just recently got the game, finally playing a successful game as England, and now this shit has jacked up my tech costs by 58%. England already starts off with terrible admin, diplo, and military, and worsens if your king lasts a long age, and now I have to shell out an extra 200 points for each tech. Just can't win at this game

Worst expansion ever... I load my Ottomans saved game and now from these idiotic institutions I have 60% tech penalty and it grows 5% per year...
